4)  Our pastor:  Rev. Kathleen Splitt is from Nebraska with roots in York County.  She lived at Calvin Crest Camp and Conference Center (www.calvincrest.org) near Fremont, NE for six years raising her three sons there.  She also worked at Highlands Presbyterian Camp and Retreat Center (www.highlandscamp.org) at Allenspark Colorado for one summer while she was in seminary.  Following seminary she worked as a chaplain resident at Children's Hospital in Cinncinati for a year, and was ordained as Minister of Word and Sacrament on November 22nd, 1998.  She has served churches in Ohio, Missouri, Minnesota, Indiana, Michigan and now here. Kathleen is excited to return to Nebraska and is enjoying the Nebraska sky and the wide open spaces.

5)  Our congregation was established in 1884 and has been responsible for providing a Christian presence in and for the Axtell community ever since.  The congregation was formed to respond to a desire for worship and Christian education on the frontier.  According to letters received from a charter member, Arthur E. Danly, at the 40th and 50th anniversary of the church, it was through the leadership of the Rev. George Giffen of Minden, in cooperation with Ward Shue of Axtell who had organized a local Sunday School group, that the Presbyterian Church in Axtell owes its existence.  Typical of Presbyterians throughout the United States, education was a significant motivation for our beginning and continues to be a significant motivation in our current ministries.
